Favorite Product Time!!!

Favorite Product Time!!!

I use to hate spending cash on Products!

A few close friends in my late teens - early twenties were hairstylists. I will never forget when they got salon-grade products in my hands, I fell in love! I can instantly feel the difference when I wash my hair with grocery store brands like Pantene, Tresemme, etc. Which has only happened a few times in the last 10 years to be honest! 😊

You are investing in your hair by getting it done professionally at the salon, it makes sense to spend a little more to help protect the hair you just invested 💰 in! I have been on a journey to find the products that I like the most. I use these products myself and on my clients. I am a minimalist and I do not like to use a lot of products but I like to keep my hair feeling healthy too! I have listed my favorite products below and who should be using them.

Joico's Color Therapy Shampoo is perfect for all color-treated hair, especially for hair that has been stressed. It is a gentle cleanser that never strips your hair and is said to double the life of your color’s vibrancy and longevity. It helps to preserve and protect against future damage. I love how it makes my hair feel and how it smells.

Joico's Color Therapy Conditioner helps to hydrate and repair your hair. It has Quadrabond Peptide Complex, which attaches to the damaged sites of the hair structure to rebuild from the inside out. Keratin and Silicone lock in moisture, amp up shine, and seal the cuticle; antioxidants guard against environmental stresses and fatty acids balance moisture levels. Plus it smells amazing!

Design Me’s Fab Me is the mother of all treatments. I recommend this for ALL of my clients. It's perfect for all hair types and it has so many benefits, 18 total! I fell in love the first time I used it! Here are my favorite benefits: Color Fade Protection, Split End Smoother, Breakage Prevention, Heat Damage Protection, Detangles, Static Reduction, Shine, Volume, Hydration and more!

Keracolor’s Purify Plus is a must-have if you think your tap water sucks, if you have well water, or if you’ll be in chlorine a lot this summer. It helps neutralize chlorine and trace minerals, which rob your hair of its hydration, vibrancy, shine, and softness. It is also a leave in which helps with breakages and dulling damage, it’s perfect for all hair types. It has a delicate PH balance to close the cuticle, leaving your hair super soft.

If you're going to be swimming in a pool this summer, I HIGHLY suggest getting this product. Get your hair wet in tap water before you go in the pool, regardless of if you get this or not. After it's wet spray this in your hair, it should help give you a barrier from the chemicals. Wash your hair in water when you're done at the pool and spray this in after. It will help neutralize the chlorine.

Kenra's Platinum Blow-Dry Spray is amazing! If you blow-dry your hair, this product is a MUST! It reduces blow-dry time up to 50% and provides thermal protection up to 428 degrees. It helps to tame frizz, resist humidity and detangles. This one smells like you are on a tropical island!

Paul Mitchell's Hot Off The Press Thermal Protection Hairspray is a styling product and heat protectant all in one. If you Flat-Iron or Curl your hair, this is an absolute must! It shields strands from high temperatures and protects against damage and breakage. This flexible-hold spray is easy to work with and fights frizz, leaving hair looking and feeling its best. It has a light styling hold as well, which is awesome for those who don’t like hairspray!

Moroccan Oil’s Dry Shampoo in Light or Dark tones. I am OBSESSED with this! It contains ultra-fine oil-absorbing rice starch that removes buildup and odor. It’s UV-protecting, Aragon oil-infused formula breaks down instantly, leaving no dull residue. I’ve tried a million dry shampoos and this is my favorite by far. I love that you spray it in, work it in with your fingers and then brush it out. It leaves you with clean hair and volume that smells amazing!

If you are a Unicorn 🦄 Client I highly recommend Keracolor’s Clenditioner. It helps you maintain your hair at home in between visits with me! They are sulfate, paraben, and cruelty-free. The non-lather conditioning cleanser designed to instantly infuse color into hair with every wash.

Fantasy Colors

Fantasy Colors

You see it everywhere you look nowadays, rainbow hair, pastels, neon, peek-a-boos...fantasy colors are all the rage! Most of my clients fall between blondes and fantasy colors. I wanted to write a little blog to touch on this subject. I use mainly Pulp Riot for my fantasy clients because it lasts longer. Why? Because they use superior quality dyes. They don't skimp or cut corners, whatsoever.

Generally, for most people, the deeper tones can last up to 42 washes, and the lighter tones up to 25 washes until the color is fully out. With Pulp Riot, the color fades true to tone.

Note, with all color lines, there are a variety of factors that can influence how quickly hair color fades, including the porosity of the hair, what level the hair is, exposure to the sun, the shampoo and conditioner you use, how often you wash your hair, the type of water used, if certain medications are used, environmental elements, genetics, etc.

What to expect when you want fantasy colors:

  • Unless you are already blonde, you will have to lighten your hair, this may take more than one visit.

  • Be prepared to be at the salon for at least 3 hours, fantasy colors take time. With most clients I have to lighten the hair, sometimes tone it, dry the hair, apply the fantasy colors, process 30-40 minutes.

  • I use Olaplex in all of my lightening services so you have the reassurance that your hair won't be too damaged. With any lightening service, some damage may occur.

After Care:

  • For maximum hair color longevity, I recommend that you shampoo and condition with sulfate-free and sodium chloride free products and rinse using tepid/cold water up to 3 times a week, or use a dry shampoo. To make the color last longer when cleansing we recommend shampooing the root area, but not let the shampoo sit on the rest of the hair for any lengthy period. Exposing the hair to well-water, chlorinated water, or salt water may compromise the hair color.

  • If you heat style your hair it is super important to use a blow dry product. If you heat style your hair with curling irons or flat irons, you need to use a heat protectant and use low heat. Heat is a huge reason that color fades, whether it's hot water, or products.

  • Be prepared to come into the salon more often than you normally would, fantasy colors do fade faster than normal colors. There are shampoos you can get to help with the fade, let me know if that's something you're interested.

I hope this helps those of you who have fantasy colors and who are thinking about getting them! Head on over to my Services page to book your appointment online!
